About once a week, we come across drives that we cannot find a problem with. In such cases, we don't charge for the recovery and pass the drive back to the client. Depending on how critical the data is, we may offer to hold onto our backup copy of the data for a few days until the client can confirm that they have their data backed up and their system online. We find that we make more money from the referrals than from over charging.

I don't see a problem here.
There was a logical corruption initially, right? Datarecoverycorp confirmed and gave a quote. They were definitely overcharging but the client could walk away if he didn't like the price.
For me there's more "dishonourable practice" here from ITS than from Datarecoverycorp.

I agree sort of.

It's data recovery corps business what they charge, they have to value their own time and resources.

It's easy for the other company to quote $300 to do the job because he knows he is on film.

I really surprised after seeing this message, it seems something story type and not realistic for me! I personally know the company 'Data Recovery Corp' for not less than 8 years back and now while visiting this forum unfortunately I've seen this posting! Friends whether you believe me or not I'm in the software business for long time and many times I contacted them for their data recovery service. Time to time they helped me recovering data from my server, hard drive, laptop etc. But I never found them fraud and never I had a feeling that they're charging a lot from me!! Actually I trust them a lot for their unique and quality service. I really shocked after getting this message.......in fact I have enough doubt, as I know them they can't charge a lot without any strong reason and can't misguide also!!

Who decideds that their a Knight glowing in the warmth of the lord?

Anyway, my nickname "Guru" is a bit of fun and always has been so people can interpret it how they like. No one can be a real all knowing Guru of hard disk drives and like everyone I have much more to learn.

I don't believe in "Guru's" it is BS to control the mass population. I hope that clears the constant Guru bashing

It is just a question of how honest a data recovery company wants to be providing a diagnosis to a customer. By the way I see a lot of drives from different DR companies - including big guys- with totally BS diagnostics.
