Did you resolve this problem?

I notice that the burst rate for both write and read tests is around 90MB/s. This means that there is no bottleneck in the interface or in the cache RAM. Instead it appears that the performance is being limited by the rate at which data can be written to the platters.

Your drive spins at 7200 RPM, ie 120 rotations per second.

This means that in one revolution, the drive writes ...

1.4MB / 120 = 12K bytes

... ie, about 24 sectors.

I'm wondering if HD Tune writes data in 12K chunks. If so, and if the drive's Write-Read-Verify feature set is enabled, could this explain why it requires one full revolution to write (and verify) 12KB ???
