Hi,

I have 2 x 300GB 15k.6 SAS drives in raid 0 600gb configuration on HP P600 SAS 256k card - in Tyan s2665 motherboard with dual 3.06 Xeons.

Without much skill ;-( I have loaded one other 146GB SAS drive as a logical drive, initialized it and it is now usable.

All my attempts to get MHDD to view the drives have failed. On start up with floppy connected and MHDD on the floppy it loads to having only a DVD drive showing in place 2 and nothing in the way of other drives which can be used by MHDD.

I am sure I have missed something in the manual, but doing a SAS search on this forum produced no results.

So can MHDD be used to check SAS drives and if so how? The reason I am trying to use MHDD is that one of the 300GB 15k.6 drives sounds a tad bumpy and the PC freezes occasionally, I feel it may have damaged sectors. Most of the time it runs 99%, for quite some hours then it will freeze. The drives sound like something is just not quite going 100% smooth.

cheers :-)

Use hddscan for windows instead. You need to load dos driver for SAS controller to dos first- found on yours truly HP Support and Drivers - There should be a dos version(sometimes they can be found in the windows 2003 pre installation floppy creator)-if not.. sorry... cant use mhdd unless you find something similar.

But HDDScan works just as good- use the verify function. any slows or bads will come up. Fixing them is another story.

Cool - thanks a lot!

I have 5 Fujitsu 146GB 15k.

I have a feeling they are really Maxtors, as the prefix on all the serials is 'MAX'.

Since I bought them cheap a friend told me Fujitsu SAS HDD is known as crap - My HP P600 seems to spit them out as fast as I load them on... But I have 2 x 300GB Seagate SAS and they are a bit flaky also, it may be the amphenol blue cable, as wiggling the HDD ends of cable before booting seems to help.

Yes- usually if you need 'wiggle' cables to make it work- you should replace or mend them- because even your scans may be erratic - show bad info. Make sure all cables are good. I doubt fujitsu drives are maxtor.

The seagate ones should run very nicely; i Have one in my G5 Server not 300gb - but it runs mint :)
