hi i was playing aruond trying to recover some bad sectors with mhdd software, then i halted the test and since i had mistakenly taken the cd out the dvd drive the pc hangs. I reeboot..,no problem to my surprise it wont recognize the dvd drive and on the bios and it appears with the name of the second dvd drive which is on a sata port (switched signatures). like they changed ports on the motherboard. I reset and reflash the bios no change then.. the cables on the ide ports to check them, theyre ok the hhds sign in perfect !. but no dvd rom yet. I downloaded the floppy version of mhdd and since it bypases the bios it appears again on the secondary ide as normal, but when i try to do any command like uncut(restore to factory) it says i have to switch to IDE mode.. how is this possible, now the ide drive thinks its mounted on sata.....!!pls help..
how can i get it to factory settings
Pc
mobo.. msi k8mmv 2 ide 2sata
drives 5.
1.3gb ram
award bios version 6.0

Sempron athlon k8 (2600)
Devices
2 hitachi hdd IDE
1 WD hdd sata
1 Samsung DVD (sata)
and the bad apple a Samsung DVd (ide)

is there any knon solution to this so i can keep using the ide drive...

everything else seems to be ok...

heheh, well to be honest i know this Samsung DVD (sata)
the Black Color as i remember, it has many problems and sometimes with bootable cds will not read
and sometimes it does`t read cd`s

the problem is ur Samsung, my advice forget about this brand
temp. solution, i remember i downloaded the customized FW for this drive from rpc1.org
you may try it from there

but remember, do not flash the latest ver. of FW, download all, and start from least ver. to high
whenever you have problems reading, go up 1 step with FW

thats all
and get another drive, it is for sure the problem

well i managed to get the drive working again, i loaded a win98 with the aspi driver and the bios did its job, i reset the cmos anyways, and found out that one of the hard drives wont accept ntfs when forced to even using Mblast or other utility, so that was the problem, everytime i tried it backlashed to the bios and wiped it.. I managed to get the drive working and wrote to hitachi for help.. i know im trying to keep a dead man alive.. but for now not much of a choice.. The new sata drive went back to normal after bios reset and everything is working , but i got hell scared to see no drives at the bios--and i know samsumg sucks..

That worked for the IDE drive first , then i flashed the bios jst in case and it showed me the new drive again.. but im not sure about doing the fw upgrade .. i tried it once and lost a perfectly working Lg drive,, first time didnt know how to do it so i freaked out after 5 mins flashing and turned the pc off !!!!! the drve just died. So maybe as long as i can get a good pc upgrade ill leave it at that.. but thanks for your reply, anyways it inspired me to go to another level LoL...lesson learned,,, disconnect everything and do the clowning from floppy just like the old days..
