 Post subject: Question about RAID5

With RAID5, is the Parity information distrubuted across all the drives, or are one of the drives dedicated to it (like with RAID3)?

Yes. The normal definition of RAID 5 includes the concept of distributed parity across all the drives. The exact details of that parity distribution can vary with different vendors, although the SNIA are attempting to standardise things...

You mean Raid4 ?

Raid3 is Byte-level striping with dedicated parity.

Raid4 is Block-level striping with dedicated parity.

Raid5 is Block-level striping Block with distributed parity.
