As long as i know 1Tb was the higher seagate size with 2 platters. Did that change? Are there models over 1Tb using only 2 platters?

Seagate has recently announced that they will soon be shipping drives with capacities of 1TB per platter.

No real improvements for too much time. At last another density jump. I was going frenzy with too many hdd to keep backups.

But they talk about internal 3Tb 3 platter. Can i can expect a 2TB barracuda using 2 platter?

I agree on that. Hdd with more than 2 platter ramp up failure rate, noise and temps. But if they make new 2 platter 2tb drives then you get more space with no disadvantages.

I found this one ST2000DL00 2TB 12ms 64mb 5900rpm at 68 euros. Seems to me like 2 platter density as a 3 platter would not be so cheap.

BUT it is 5900 shit. They call it green lol. Nice try but no deal with me. Ill wait for 7200 standard. Hdd is slow going slower is stupid im not responsible of overpopulation so dont pay for it .

AFAICT, hard drives have become much less reliable as the data density has increased, all other things being equal. Tighter track spacing means that bearings must have tighter tolerances, lower runout, etc. More bits per inch means that the heads need to fly a lot closer to the discs, which in turn makes them more susceptible to impact damage. That said, I haven't been watching the technology, so perhaps there have been significant advances while I've been asleep.

Think about doing a surface scan on a 3TB drive.... I'll be waiting for years....
