If you make the 3TB drive a data drive rather than a boot drive, then your OS, and motherboard drivers, may be able to support it even if your BIOS doesn't.

For example, I am aware of two ways in which HDD manufacturers circumvent the 2TiB limit of Windows XP.

Seagate uses DiscWizard, an OEM version of Acronis Disk Director, to emulate two physical drives, 2TB plus 0.73TB:

Hitachi gets around the problem with a GPT Disk Manager:

The following Hitachi documents make good reading.

Advanced Format Technology Brief:

High Capacity (≥2.2TB) Technology Brief:

See the section entitled "Decision Tree: Steps for Creating a DATA Drive" on page 3 of the last Hitachi document in my previous post.

These appear to be the latest drivers for your nForce 550 chipset:

Hopefully they will support drives larger than 2.2TiB.
