hello was wondering when you all do data recovery

how do you return your clients recovered information to them

do you send them a new hard drive or usb pen or upload the files for them to recover.
or still use dvdrs.


what are the options.

Generally speaking...

Up to 2gb - upload
Up to ~15gb - DVD(s)
More than that on a USB hdd supplied at trade price.

For trade or repeat clients we have loan drives for them to borrow and return when data copied off.

On whatever media the customer want, from floppy to Usb drive to Dvd/Blueray to tape to another drive... Or ftp. It depends on how much data to deliver. Latest weird request was data on DC2000-ish tape in Ximat format !

We've stopped the loaner drive program for a few reasons:

1. Nightmare to keep track of
2. Drives come back damaged
3. Drive don't come back for months, years and sometimes never do come back

So, we suggest to our recurring service partners that they supply a destination drive (whether it be their own shuttle drive or a new drive for the client).

Same as Luke, Loaners are a nightmare, and can end up in minor disputes in trying to get them back... Have also stopped this now.

We tend to use branded retail boxed drives with warranty for data return, this saves a lot of hassle 6-12 months down the line with any warranty claims.... I also feel that the way you return and present your work, says an awful lot about you as a company.

Since 2003, my company asks clients to provide themselves a suitable capacity disk drives to save recovered data. If they don't have one, we refer them to buy directly from one of our disk drive/PC parts partner/seller. Previously we used DVD/CD, but the amount of editable data now is expanding exponentially. A bad habit of users, with large capacity drive, they tend to put 'everything' inside, so we think, disk drive is a more convenient way to put 'everything' we recovered

we let the clients borrow drives had no issues at all got the drives back ok.
or they send us a drive to transfer over too.


was looking into uploading data but not found a good company with high upload speed.
drop box is very slow for uploads.

looks like dvdrs are still ruling the data recovery world.

usb pens would be great but its hard to get a good supplier with all these fakes around.

you know your be surprise how many people still us those DC2000 tapes for backing up and in Ximat format
