Maxtor. Doesn't look like they even pulled the barcode sticker off of the top edge.

Looks like an old Maxtor Calypso, pretty sure they didnt go bigger than around 300GB!

And it wasnt bought from china, thats a surprise

Out of curiosity, was it bought privately, or from a shop??

Actually I don't know where it was bought, privately or in a shop. I was also shocked when found these pictures and couldn't believe my eyes!

I have found these pictures in auction site in my country (Serbia):

http://www.limundo.com/kupovina/Racunar ... in/6306598

Translation of auction description:

Hard disk passed from Austria
New, unpacked from the bag
Service guy has tested it, it's not valid, there some "needle" hitting
He says it's really big fake because the label isn't good and there is no ATA 2 tb hard disk
I really don't know what it is, poorly understand computers, I'm writing what he told me, for me it's bad
I wish you a happy auction

The last sentence is the best !!!

Probably a one day special/scam at the streetmarket.

Out of interest how much did it cost?

10 dinars as a start of the auction. As far as i'm concerned, 10 dinars = 0.10 euros.

Maybe someone wants to buy for recreational purposes :)

From what I see it IS a Calypso or similar chassis with a PCB. The PCB can be from a 60GB or another ATA with ext. rom fitted. Whatever is, the drive is broken and the top label is fake. Look at "2TB ATA" and then there is SERIAL ATA logo down after. A "LEMON DELUXE".

I am more concerned about the closing sticker on the antistatic bag : SAFETY GOGGLES MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES !! What did the bag contain BEFORE being used to ship the drive ?!? :buhahahaha:

Actually, 10 dinars is 0.087 euros. That auction site has no fee for starting price from 10 to 99 dinars. That's the reason for low starting price.

In any case I would say it deserve a prize for the clever attempt : remove label, print out a "trustable" ( ) label , clean the top lid and attach it...

Wow! I never thought of that. I have hundreds of old Maxtor drives that I could relabel and sell as 2TB drives. Out of curiosity, what does the drive detect as and what happens when you read/write the last sector of the drive?
