I have a seagate st1000lm035 originally from my xbox one x. Last month my xbox couldn't reboot after an system update, it seems that there was something wrong with the hard disk or the file system, so I fixed it by replacing the hard drive.
I connectted the removed hard drive to my pc and I found everything normal except the capacity. About 30GB was perfectly gone, I tried many msdos, windows or linux hdd recovery tools, but none can detect the lost capacity.
So how could this happen? Any ideas?

The drive could have a HPA (Host Protected Area). You can remove the HPA with tools such as HDAT2, hdparm, Seatools for DOS, HDD Capacity Restore Tool.

I also thought it was a problem with hpa, but I tried HDD Capacity Restore and seatools for dos, did not work.

The HPA feature set may be hidden by a DCO. If so, then HDAT2 should be able to work around this.

Thank yor for the reply. I tried hdat2 and victoria but both of them did not show the right capacity of the hard drive.
I have some screenshots of hdat2, could you see anything wrong with these parameters?
