What brand of table do you use?

My table is a standard office table I got from an auction some years ago. The table is 60 inches wide so there is lots of room for several enclosures along with room for my laptop. The table has no branding on it.

I use excel extensively for data processing. Most of my storage is for games which I get lots of for free.

Excel has a lot of advanced functions for statistics. I use these a lot and my CPU with 12 threads does feel the load.

Finally got a screenie for the SK Hynix SSD I have

While the general health status reads Good 100%, there is a critical hardware alert hidden in the S.M.A.R.T. values down below: ID 0E (Media and Data Integrity Errors) has a raw value ending in 1. This means the drive has encountered a physical uncorrectable data block error. It is a sign of early physical degradation, not a firmware bug.

However, the 80003E00 firmware itself has documented issues, primarily concerning inefficient power distribution and thermal stability management under specific Windows power states.

The Known Firmware Vulnerability:

The older 8000x-series firmware releases for the SK Hynix PC401 are prone to:

Power-state mismatch: The SSD can fail to wake up properly or drop off the system bus during deep sleep transitions.
Thermal throttling lag: Slow power-state shifting can cause the controller to stay hotter than intended during intensive tasks.
Recommended Solution: You need to patch the storage microcode to resolve the software bugs and prevent further data correlation issues.

You should run Seatools asap on this one as well. Multiple times a day. on every drive you own. do it now.

1) Back Up Everything: Before modifying storage firmware, back up your critical documents immediately. The 0E error indicates data corruption may happen next.

2) Download the Fix: Update your drive to the final recommended version, 80007E00. If you are using a branded machine, you can source this utility through the Dell PC401 Storage Firmware Update page or your specific laptop manufacturer's driver portal.

3) Execute the Update: Close all running applications, launch the update tool as an administrator, choose the target drive, and allow the system to reboot to flash the new microcode.

Please let me know: Is this SSD your main boot drive? Are you currently encountering any Blue Screen errors (BSODs) or system freezes? Knowing this will help narrow down if the single media error requires a complete drive replacement.

I am not using that SSD as it has too many hours on it. I was using to get the P15 BIOS updates. I then I switched to a KIngSpec NX 2TB for my main system SSD.

Have you had the random Nibble flip issue that occurs with these drives? Apparently when you stuff these drives into a P15, The algorithm of the forum chatbot can mess up and flip a few of the most significant nibble to least significant. As there seems to be almost no significance in this whole thread, I think yours has this Issue.

I found on the SK Hynix site a tool for SSD so once I put the old SSD into a TB4 enclosure I should be able to update the SSD firmware. I am not sure about SK Hynix as this is not widely seen at local vendors as WD/SanDisk slugs it out with Chinese brands.

I probably will get some more M.2 TB4 SSD enclosures as these seem to be convenient. This sell for under $100 CAD.

CrystalDiskInfo also can read the SSD interface speed up to PCIe 4.0 which suggests TB5 enclosures are not needed for older SSD use. TB5 is more oriented around 8K panels than PCIe 5.0 SSD products.

Power on hours for SSD seem less concerning compared to mechanical hard disks. Some of my old disks have racked up 30,000 hours or so from when I used to used them in a desktop before I moved to laptops exclusively.

can you list some more random facts about how your P15 interacts with SSDs and 8K panels using some slang filler words

I only have 4K OLED on my P15 so my machine is not able to run 8K panels. My TB4 hub is also built around 4K panels. 8K24 might work but not with HDR10 color etc. TB5 is faster at 80 gigabits and it supports 120/40 gigabits in an asymmetric mode to handle 8K60.

Long ago SDI was used when HD was a thing using D5 tape decks etc. Now my TB4 enclosure shows PCIe 4.0 speeds with a suitable SSD. PCIe 4.0 is fast enough to handle 8K RAW video but my i7 CPU is not powerful enough to handle that level of performance.

8K is extremely demanding. TB5 machines are $4 grand and up. Red cameras are $50 grand and up. Red uses CF Express cards which can hold maybe 15 minutes of footage. Last time I was on their site evidently Nikon now owns them.
