A friend gives me a HDD Western Digital WD3200AVBS, that he takes from a DVR, but I can't make it work on my PC, previously he had gave me similar HDDs but WD1600AVBS and works great. I test it on other PCs and nothing happens. He has other similar HDDs and have the same problem, anyone could give me any ideas.

thanks in advance.

What specifically doesn't work? Is it recognized in the BIOS?

Sorry, I lost my internet connection for days.
And sorry for give no further explanation:
The BIOS doesn't recognize them.
Besides, the space where must appear the HD description in the IDE and SATA boot recognaince, is empty. Tested in several Mother-boards, even some who support SATA2.
In mother-board with SATA1 support only, I test them jumpered (even this particulary model doesn't specifies jumpering for SATA1, I use the jumper settings from the WD3200JS Caviar that doesn't work neither) and tested unjumpered... this could be a firmware o actually a hardware limitation? this HD came with some DVR.

I too am having the same problem with Western Digital WD3200 AVBS 320 GB drive.
If I put it in my PC BIOS doesn't see it..and it never spins up. I've tried new cables different PC's etc. and the drive never spins up. If I put it back in the DirecTv box it spins up and works fine.
Any help with this would be great!

A friend find the solution for this in topics of this forum referred to Television
The solution is applying a patch named turn_off_poweron_in_standby.iso or something similar, founded in sourceforge.net, look further, it works, we make this to 4 HDs severals months ago and they are working great.

You must burn this iso on a cd, boot with only that HD connected, follow instructions, reset PC (not turn off) and everything is solved, eventhogh you must find the post that I mention previously and read it carefully.

good luck
