Hello People,
since you are the hdd gurus

i have a question: I want to grab the firmware off a branded oem drive and put it on new retail drives. Are there suggestions what i will be needing for this ? Is software sufficient or do i need extra Hardware for this task. p.s. i strongly believe this firmware is not available anywhere so no chance for a download.

u must need special HW.
and offcourse, ur downloaded fw could not be used to next drives untill it mathces. its not like MOBILE FLASH. just keep it mind.

you mean i need the exactly same harddisk ? sure i know.
now how much would this hardware be ? i guess you mean the pc3000 pci card ? not that i buy one from chinese , how much would the real thing be for me ? are there distributors in germany ?

if u r going to do for a single HDD, no profit at all. and also, its not possible to do the job having learnt in a magic time. need contiuous struggle, and offcourse without sleeping a lot of night.

thanks for your time shahij, but if i can buy 15 drives for 200$ each instead of 600$ i guess there is pretty room for saving money, except the pc3000 costs 6000$. and i hope handling of the software for dumping and restoring a firmware is not so difficult at all ?
is there a website from the manufacturers of the real thing so i can check if the drive is supported and if there are resellers here ?

What drive is it ? If it is a very recent drive, then there is no support yet.
Tell me the type and I'll tell you if its supported and by what.
Best regards,
Dobre

The only tool that supports that drive is the Salvation data disk doctor for Seagate.
You could also work on it with the pc3K UDMA version, but there you would be limited to working with the terminal, what i cannot advice for a novice.
So my best advice it to contact salvation data.
Best regards,
Dobre
