December 22nd, 2011, 16:20

I just finshed a low level format, now after rebooting the drive is not recognized. Upon checking device manager it is there, yet don't show a "Computer" or any where else. Thanks in advance for any help

To help with understanding how you got to this point:
- Why were you doing the "low-level format"?
- What program did you use to do that?

This is expected. Just follow the usual instructions for whatever version of Windows you have, to create one or more partitions on that disk. Until you do that, there are no filesystems on the disk, so there are no drive letters to show under "Computer". I hope this would be explained wherever you got the suggestion to "low-level format" the disk.

The drive was cluttered up with a lot of programs I no longer needed, I used HDD Lowlevel drive format tool 4.12. I am using Win 7 Home professional, where is this info to create these partitions. Thanks for the reply, greatly appreciated.

Thanks for explaining, though you've done unnecessary work - there were easier ways...

I should also have mentioned that, after creating one or more partitions, you then need to format it/them. At that point you'll see one or more drive letters under "Computer".

This forum is not for Windows support. However, 2 minutes of Googling came up with these links - ignore the adverts, and then the top 2 "real" links seem to describe the correct process for Win7:

OK, good luck :)
