I believe that it would be foolish for any serious data recovery lab not to have DDI 4. That said, I also believe it is pretty essential to have both the network and USB add-ons, at the very least.
PC3K + USB hard drives = give up and find SATA PCB equivalent
DDI + USB hard drives = clone targeted unencrypted data with full head map and sector read control

I definitely prefer to clone drives in DDI instead of DE. Although, if you just need a few files imaged, DE is probably quicker/easier. Since we most often go for a 100% clone, we typically use DDI. I agree the network add-on is a must.
