Help for "ENLIGHT 8721 HOT SWAP DRIVE MODULE ULTRA 320 SCSI"

Hello, I open this topic of conversation for an answer to some questions on the device HOT SWAP DRIVE MODULE, ENLIGHT brand and model 8721 (8721B01), that I purchased new a few weeks ago on eBay. For the hardware part everything is OK, I have already successfully connected five U320 146GB hard disk (80pin SCA), that soon I'm going to configure in RAID. My questions are for the driver and software utility for use with the CAGE SCSI ENLIGHT. The CAGE SCSI ENLIGHT that I use work with a controller ADAPTEC 39320A-R .

Questions:

The company ENLIGHT is bankrupt or ENLIGHT still exists under another name ? If it still exists, what is your WEB site ?

Where can I find a drive compatible with Windows 7/Windows 8 for ENLIGHT 8721 ?

you can download the "Processor Device" (the driver that I find) and the utility "SCSI Manager”.

The first is not recognized in Windows 7 and the second for its activation requires a serial number, that in my original box of ENLIGHT 8721 I can not find. Does anyone know this serial number for the software "SCSI Manager” from ENLIGHT ?

For your experience there is a driver compatible with this CAGE SCSI no ENLIGHT that work on Windows 7/Windows 8 ?

Thanks for the link to the website that has a copy of the site enlightcorp.com. Unfortunately I checked but what interests me they did not a backup ... what bad luck! For example, I downloaded the file "HDD-Modular.rar" (containing info for the CAGE 8721) but this is not ... there is no backup!

Nothing ... I have to try to look somewhere else ... I have to figure out which serial number specified in the "SCSI Manager."

And try to use a tool of another brand ... for example "HP SAF-TE SCSI Processor Device." It can be compatible with my SCSI CAGE?

I'm sorry I can't help you.

What I would do would be to identify the "Processor Device" in the "cage" and search for its support info. You may be able to identify it via the properties information in Device Manager, otherwise you would need to examine the electronics on the backplane.

True, you're right, maybe from the hardware ID you can determine if there is another software that can monitor my SCSI ENLIGHT CASE 8721 (8721B01). I am attaching some photos with the information which is discussed.

Sorry, that doesn't help me.

My suggestion would be to identify the chip(s) on the backplane and search for drivers for the main processor chip rather than the Enlight brand name.

OK ... then it is imported the chipset of the CAGE.

Searching in the web I've seen that the ENLIGHT DM001201 CAGE (CAGE with three BAY SCSI) uses chipset GEM318. Maybe my Enlight 8721 CAGE with five BAY SCSI uses the same chipset. Possible?

But through Windows I can see the chipset used by my CAGE without disassembling it?

AFAICT, the GEM drivers are just "null installs", so I'm wondering whether you need a driver at all ???

This is the Windows dummy driver to remove the yellow question mark(s) under Device Manager.

SAF-TE (SCSI Accessed Fault-Tolerant Enclosures) and SES (SCSI Enclosure Services) are two industry standards for reporting on devices and environmental status of external disk array cabinets. SAF-TE is a hardware interface specification developed jointly by nStor Corp. and Intel Corp. SES is an ANSI standard (NCITS.305:1998) that defines how the enclosure status information is communicated across a SCSI protocol bus. SAF-TE is based on the command protocol defined by the SES standard, but allows for additional vendor specific applications. Both of these protocols provide for real-time monitoring and event management for disk array systems.

The GEM318 processor supports the following command sets, whereas the GEM359 provides additional support for SES commands. These appear to be standard commands, so I'm wondering whether you could make do with a generic monitoring utility ???

As for identifying the actual processor chip, I doubt that you could do it from within Windows. Normally you would query the device using the SCSI Inquiry command. The reported Inquiry data would include vendor ID, enclosure ID, and product ID. A generic enclosure would report the IDs of the processor chip, whereas a custom enclosure would report the IDs of the OEM. These "vendor-defined inquiry data" are programmed into an "external NVRAM device", eg 24C01A.

Hello everyone, after many months from my last message and many vicissitudes with my computer I get to talk about my problem with the SCSI CAGE ENLIGHT 8721.

A few days ago I installed the following drivers for the SCSI CAGE ENLIGHT 8721:

Everything seems to work well ... there are no errors!

Having my PC running Windows 8.1 64bit I have installed the drivers HP SDR GEM318 SCSI in the 64bit version.

Now I have to find a freeware program that can read me the status of my four 146GB U320 SCSI hard drives in RAID 10 present into the SCSI CAGE ENLIGHT 8721 and connected to a controller SCSI ADAPTEC 39320A-R.

I have already tried the program ADAPTEC dedicated for this purpose (Adaptec Storage Manager for ADAPTEC 39320A-R), this is the program to use if the hard drives are connected in a RAID out of the CAGE, but in my case it does not work ... I am a CAGE SCSI chipset GEM318 (ENLIGHT 8721).

There is a freeware program (a monitoring enclosures) in standard SAF-TE do you recommend? The program must operate with the chipset GEM318.
