Lenovo has released latest FW for their branded hdds. Recently released FWSH46.
link
http://support.lenovo.com/in/hi/downloads/ds003740But this fw can be used/forced to upgrade non-lenovo hdds also. Which is very convenient method.
some examples was previously discussed in hdd furms also, like
in c:\firmware\seagate>HFSS108.exe -P1 5421lv17.LOD for all seagate ST9320325as ( FW upgarde only)
May request GURUS of HDDGURU forum to discuss about other hdd models. Hitachi models need emphasis.
I know splidit and Fzabkar will be in the frontline. Others are most welcome.

I would not use OEM firmware to update retail firmware on a Seagate drive. Even two retail firmware versions for the same model may not be compatible.
For example, using SDxx firmware to update a 7200.11 with CCxx firmware will render the drive inoperable. There was also a case in this forum where a Seagate user updated a retail drive with Dell firmware, or vice versa. The result was corrupt SMART data, but the drive appeared to be OK in other respects.
I have also seen disasters involving Dell firmware updates to Samsung drives, rendering the drive inoperable.
