We have a technician version of r-studio from 2013. Would it be worth the high cost to upgrade it, about $765 after discount? What are the main benefits gained by upgrading?

That's what you have to see.
Do you still can work with your version? Do you need the new features on the new version?

we are more novices than most on this forum. Do you think it can reconstruct ntfs files systems better? in your personal opinion, is the newer version worth it?

The next time you have a case you aren't happy with the results, download and run the newer demo and see if does better. If so, pay for the upgrade. If not, save your money and carry on until the next case.
May be a good time to explore other options, such as UFS Explorer, which I'm really liking these days.

great suggestion Luke. I will see how the demo does with this job that is not going quite as well as I hoped.
