MHDD: startup hangs on Compaq notebook

I tried to run MHDD on Compaq Armada E700 and M700 notebooks.
On the E700, with UBCD or MHDD iso, MHDD freezes the machine when detecting stuff on the secondary IDE, which is not used in the Armada E/M/V series. But on E700, I can load MHDD by Magic Boot Floppy disk.
On M700, which normally should be identical electrically (the models even share the same BIOS, only the E700 has separate MultiBays for floppy and IDE where the M700 has only a shared one), even the boot floppy leads to a crash.

The machine freezes so bad only the emergency reboot (pressing Power and Standby at the same time) works, besides pulling batteries and power supply, of course. The clock in the lower right corner stops, and I have a blinking cursor just below the "PORT 170h (Secondary Controller)".

Question: Can MHDD be forced to not touch the secondary port at all?

After the first run, MHDD stores the drive you choose in the CFG\MHDD.CFG file, so when you run MHDD next time it will not scan drives automatically. So you can then take a look into MHDD.CFG and then make the corresponding changes to the boot floppy/CD disk...

OK, I did that and made a new floppy image to use with PXEboot. Works perfectly, thanks!

Though the config file would be easier to use if the supplied boot disk contained an editor ...

Just come across the same problem with my compaq armada m700.

mhdd frezzes exactly as descibed.
but I can not understand what exactly must be done to overcome this obstacle?

please help me explain what exact steps should I make.
