PC3000 UDMA - A big con ? - BUYERS BEWARE WARNING.

ACE has now declared PC3000PCI for windows an obsolete product.
Once again buyers must fork out an astromical sum of money for
a new version - but is UDMA a new version ?

The current UDMA version differs from PCI version in some additional
Maxtor drives and an Hitachi mobile drive.
Inclusion of Fujitsu and Quantum desktop drives is useless.

The additional Maxtor and Hitachi mobile drive inclusions were promised
to loyal PC3000PCI users - ACE engineers did not keep their word and
have now abandoned the PC3000PCI user base.

So why UDMA ?

Ace introduced this version because they were just not clever enough to provide
a crackproof version of PC3000PCI - that's a fact.

I haven't checked UDMA prices, but PCI was about $12,000 in the US.

It's insane for it to cost more than a freaking Core 2 Duo with 2 Raptors and a GeForce 8800GTX!

I would have to say that it would be unfair if you did not get a discount if you already have the PCI version.

However, even 12k USD is cheap in reality. Imagine how "MANY" hours of R&D you would need to do for you to have the same ability for yourself?

A decent software programmer is 40,000 USD ? A reverse engineer is 40,000 USD ? , in this time you could probably only reverse engineer two product generations and implement it into your code.

I say "Up" the price........ If you want it you have to pay for it. If you don't want it...Do it yourself .....

But if we are in the industry where PC3000 and similar utilites are essential then we have no choice but to pay the prices Acelab are asking. Besides, if I recover 15 disks with firmware failures which i would not be able to do without PC3K, then the cost of my 15 recoveries would pay for PC3000 anyway. This would be 15 recoveries I would not have been able to do, and hundreds more if I did not buy it.

afaiac udma version is useless and not worth $10 because it contains
just about nothing extra on pci-windows version.

There is so much which ace could have expanded into udma version which
they deliberately left out for "updates" planned for 2008.

Besides, ace competes with own customers in data recovery business so
it's in their interest to cripple possible competition.

Anyway, my experience is about 90% of jobs don't need ace sh#t
