HDD Scan freezes

June 4th, 2007, 8:29

Hi,

I have read about HDD Scan software and wanted to test my SATA disk with it (Seagate Barracuda 160 GB), but everytime I select this disk from rollout menu (I have connected also external USB drive, so there are two drives in this menu), the system freezes and has to be "cold" restarted. I have also tried another diagnostic software for HDDs (Hard Drive Inspector) and Windows also freezes. Can this be caused by the fact, that the S.M.A.R.T. option is displayed as disabled during the booting process?

sounds to me your going to be having problems with your hard drive soon.
i used both hdd scan on my hard drives they are both ide

when you click on the smart button it should come up with the information of the drive
and it should be in green lights

smart is normal disabled in the bios
because it can degrade the hard drive because it has to work a lot harder
so a lot of factorys do not enable it in the bios

the other option is because your using sata drives
it only works with ide and not sata

what happens when you enable it in your bios system
it should work fine then
