Hi guys,
First post to this newly found site and forum. Thanks Dimitry for some excellent resources and giving us the benefit of your knowledge.
I had a great deal of trouble with a laptop (Dell Inspiron 2500) Hdd- Toshiba MK2023GAS, finally conceding it was beyond repair, and bought a Hitachi Travelstar 80GB (retail, not from Dell).
Typically, when I went to Fdisk it, it was reported as 10781MB (only c.8GB in BIOS). I downloaded the Hitachi feature tool (diskette maker) you provided (thank you) to change Drive Capacity, but when I ran it, it tried to install onto the HDD on the pc I d/loaded it to. I cancelled of course. I think the link for it obviously needs checked.
I then downloaded the Floppy Image file (ftool_200.img?) and extracted to a floppy, but when I inserted and tried to boot from it, I got the message "Remove Disks and Reboot".
Any idea if it is a faulty .img or have I missed anything out?
Thanks for any help offered.

Rab

..continuing..
I tried the "diskette creater" from Hitachi's own site and, it did exactly the same - tried to install to Hard drive. I presume the HDDGuru d/load is taken direct from that link originally, so it is not really a fault of the link here.
I then tried the CD Image (ISO file) from Hitachi, and after burning to disk with Ultra Iso, that booted fine. This is a new version - v2.11.
The Capacity was reported correctly (80GB) in the tool, but I made sure the 'Make Permanent' option was selected anyway and OK'd and exitted.
I went into Setup (BIOS) and checked - it showed the full 80GB. Hurrah!

However, when I did Fdisk and Format again they showed only 10GB!!
When I installed the OS, HDD was again reported in XP as 80GB.
This is all getting very confusing.
Any ideas about the Fdisk discrepancy?
Thanks,
Rab.
