Difference between HDD Low Level Format and HDDWipe?

December 9th, 2008, 12:01

HDDGuru's HDD Low Level Format tool 2.36:

"This freeware Low Level Format utility will erase, Low-Level Format and re-certify a SATA, IDE or SCSI hard disk drive... Low Level Format Tool will clear partitions, MBR, and every bit of user data."

HDDGuru's HDD Wipe tool 2.35:

"This freeware HDD Wipe utility will erase and re-certify a SATA, IDE or SCSI hard disk drive ... HDD Wipe Tool will clear partitions, MBR, and every bit of user data."

What, if anything, is the difference between these two programs?

Can the description on the software download page http://hddguru.com/ be updated to make some mention of the differences, if any?

Thanks.

Are you serious? Is that really all? Two different programs (with different version numbers) that do the same exact thing?

Not really sure if there are any other differences. Maybe somebody else can clarify here for us? :)

Right. Which makes them sound like they do the same thing, so I can't figure out why HDDGuru wrote two different programs.

They probably do same thing; different names are most likely for people with different beliefs

I discovered a difference. Low level format would not let me format because it reported the drive was not "Native" or "SATA" - when actually it is SATA, just connected through a USB enclosure.

Wipe did not give me this message.
