| Post subject: | HDD LLF & Wipe don't seem to do anything. |
I tried using both the LLF and Wipe utility, which, by the way, in agreement with another post, appear to be the same program with a puzzlingly different name. I used it to try and wipe a Samsung SV0602H 60.0GB HDD which is housed in an external enclosure, connected via USB. With both programs, it gave the appearance that it was doing "something," and took quite awhile doing it. But in the end, the data structure was "untouched." I'm thoroughly confused, as it seems both programs are nothing but "smoke and mirrors," if you catch my meaning. Not sure if I did something wrong, but these programs are so simple, I don't see that. This is my first time trying to use either program, so perhaps I don't know what to expect, but I certainly expected something different than what I got. Couple of points: 1) Both the LLF and Wipe programs reported that they were done successfully (or some verbiage like that), and gave no indication that anything had gone wrong, or that any errors occurred. 2) During the process, I was able to access the drive as if nothing was happening, which is quite different than what happens when, say for instance, a drive is being formatted. The drive would not be accessible during this process. At this point, since it's my first time using these apps, or really even ever hearing of them, my plan is to just ditch them and try to forget I've ever discovered this site. Maybe I'll roll back around and see if anyone has any helpful information for me, maybe I won't. Or just maybe this can start a discussion to help someone else. Thanks for reading. Peace. |
