This is probably 'obvious' to many of you, but in HDDScan what is the meaning of Verify in Tasks:Surface Tests:Test:Verify? Please tell me what tests are performed when Verify is selected. Thank you...vaughn_k :)

it will execute Verify commands (ATA or SCSI) which tell drive read a sector into internal buffer and check for errors.
The main difference between Read and Verify that in Verify mode data doesn't go through interface cable

Doomer - Thank you.

When the HD has been wiped and not partitioned or formatted, what is the "Verify" process when there is no data on the HD?

Verify tells if a sector can be read without errors; this has nothing to do with the physical data in that sector. Just a check if all signals are present and can be read without problems. Data is stored in a very special form on a disk, with lots of controlsignals.

the process is exactly the same and as I desribed above
HDDScan doesn't distinguish drives with or w/o data

The same apply to MHDD, Victoria and any other software using "Verify".
