Is there any software that can test for bad hard drive cache

I have been looking for software that allows me to test a hard drive for a failing cache, it seems very common when the drive transfer speed seem to drop drastically.
How or what software would i use to test it?.

Cache and RAM is in common (same chip usually) on drive PCB so you have to test the drive electronics. There are proprietary commands and procedures to do so - maybe manufacturer specific test sw can do some BASIC tests (not at laboratory level).
There are specific procedures for specific mfg. but these are proprietary info.
Note that drive cache failure can be caused by drive failing to read - and the electronics are fine.
I vote for common MoBo controller subsystem failure or link problems rather than a failure in drive electronics.
