Hey I have a FUJITSU MHV2120BH CA06672-B55600AP
I believe the head is bad. It is formated as mac
trying to recover using windows and macdrive to read from macdisk
not showing up in bios as other mac formatted disks do.
head travels half way across platter over and over, slows platter then spins up.
I am guessing bad head.
Any software I can use to test this? Verify it is connected at all?

If the disk is not showing in BIOS, you can not do nothing with software.
you should contact a DR company near you if data is important.

Would a bad head cause it to not show up in the bios? I am considerig buying a parts drive and swapping out the heads if that is the case
Does the firmware on the replacement have to match?

If you do not have considerable experience swapping heads, the right equipment and clean air environment - then this is a recipe for disaster.
FW revision is NOT sufficient for headswap.
Of course a bad head will cause it not to show up in the BIOS.
Please don't be offended, I'm just being honest with you. If you try to swap heads, you will made a bad situation a lot worse, probably terminal.

hey, no problem, no offense at all. I have a donor on the way with the same model number, part number, apple part number, firmware and date of manufacture, So I am guessing it will be a good match. The data is not worth the recovery cost.
I have noticed the head travels half way across the platter and then recycles over and over slowing the platter. I see no scaring on the platter.
Any tips on the head exchange? Keep the heads apart, I have heard. What do you typically use?

I recommend u practice on another drive, buy a couple off ebay or similar and practice your skills on these before attempting your real drive.
Again, this is totally your own risk and if u screw it up......bye bye data.
If it's not worth a pro........then you have nothing to lose I guess.

Started that last night. What is worst case if the head touches itself after off but doesn't scrape head?
