Looking on recomendations on cd/dvd recovery software

April 21st, 2010, 14:14

I would like to add a quality CD/DVD recovery to my tools list. What are the leading products for this?

Have a look at either BadCopy Pro or ISObuster though there are a lot more. Can be useful but as always no software is right for every situation it really depends. I would also check other posts for more recommendations.

There are however certain types of damage software will not help.

Adding link to the other CD/DVD recovery thread

dvd-data-recovery-t15526.html

Which also mentions No TOC = No Data

This looks like an interesting area to research
to see if we can get a standard or modified CD/DVD drive to abitarily read 'blocks' off of media with logical or very minor physical damage
using some suitable software tools

Now seeing exactly what CD Roller and BadCopy Pro can do ...

as far as I have seen , there is NO commercial software that can override corrupted or absent TOC.
All the SW have more or less sophisticated features but nothing that runs at physical layer.

Luckily there is quite a lot of expertise out there on modifying CD/DVD drive firmware,
relating to bypassing copy protection etc
and accessing normally inaccessable parts of the disk
on certain models of drive
which might provide some avenues of investigation

But its a whole new area to have to get involved in

Got the cd dr job- but I agree with BlackST - so far all these software solutions are not able to access the cd at a low level. Havent found a product yet that can image the 'blank' cd! Some modified hardware is likely called for- make a great DR product!
