Hello.

I need to return a disk to the seller. (wd scorpio blue 250 gb)

However, the error it gives, happens only in the notebook it must fit in.

Syntoms
The disk, at times is not recognized, and the system does not boot.
The manufacturer tool for windows, does not recognize the drive, and shows an empty list.
The DOS diagnostic tool give error 209 (check cable), you are unable to run tests there.
Another disk from the same manufacturer WORKS FINE.

However, this happens only in that notebook.
In a Desktop system, it IS recognized, and runs the tests flawlessly (short and long).

I need to return this disk, but need to be able to reproduce the error or find a software that reports some error, in a desktop pc.

So, need a software that is able to determine what the error is.

I have used this software, and none give me errors in a desktop pc:
WD datalife windows/dos
victoria
seagate diagnose
ibm hitachi diagnose(iirc)
hddscan
smartmontools

And practically all that is in hirens cd for hd test.

So, which software im missing?

the main laptop motherboard is at fault
and its breaking down.
possible because of heat
if the hard drive works in a external case with no problems

then for sure its the main motherboard at fault

Another wd scorpio blue, but 160gb instead of 250 works fine in the same motherboard.

The 160gb disk runs all diagnoses windows and dos based flawlessly.

The 160gb disk does boot all the times (unlike the 250gb faulty one).

both disks are new.

I find it hard to believe its the motherboard, but if you know a way of determine it is, please elaborate.

I know there are some hdd diagnose tools im missing.
which ones?!
