I have an eide notebook hard drive (fujitsu MHU2100AT 100GB) with "problems", I cannot connect directly to the desktop pc so I use "enermax portable usb 2.0 2.5'' external hdd EHD-251U2" to connect as usb, the problem is that windows recognize it but it "sort of freeze", already opened application can be used correctly but you cannot open new application until you unplug the usb cable.

What do you suggest?
There is a sort of "driver" that change the way windows behave with plug 'n' play to bypass these problems or do you have another solution?

And then when I start the scan it stuck until I unplug the USB cable.

What can I try to recover data?

If its in an external unit, remove it from the external unit and connect the drive directly to the computer. If it is still error out like that then there is something wrong with the ROM om the HD.

Also, I suggest taking the drive to a professional data recovery company if the data is important to you.

Get an 2.5 to IDE adaptor to use on your PC to connect the 2.5 drive to this one. If you still have problems on this one more than likely there is internal problems in the HDD that is causing this one. See if your PC still freezes when you access the 2.5 with adaptor. If yes then you need more professional help on this and an advanced tool such as ACE UDMA to help you assist in getting this to work. You can try to clone drive with advanced tool like Deepspar and go from there too. If it is heads, media or SA damage you need to fix this too.

On linux you can have an harddisk attached without "mount it in the OS" that it possible the motive why linux doesn't freeze like Windows.
Isn't possible to replicate this behaviour in Windows?
Or do you know a software for linux that may help in this case?

Try using dd_rescue (freeware) in Linux to clone your drive. Dd_rescue knows how to skip around bad patches in the media. It can also clone the drive in reverse.

I have taken a look at the page of "PC-3000 for Windows UDMA" there is an order form but they doesn't say the price.

Its very expensive. I work for a company that has one and the boss just says EXPENSIVE.

If the data is important take it to a professional Data recovery Company. Also, make sure they have been in business and a member some something like the BBB.

Right around the 10 thousand dollar range plus yearly update on it. Rather expensive for a one time job it is cheaper to allow a DR company to do the work for you. At this stage if you do not mess up the drive too much it should not be an expensive job. i think the problem you have is due to cheap quality usb encloser or some autorun virus/malware
which runs once you plug it.

my suggestion is to disable autorun for usb or try to use your unit in another pc
and run AV scanner on it
