I need some info about DD_Rescue. What do you think about it? Is it a good image software? Does anyone use it?
Or do you just use DeepSpar, Data Compass, etc??

Does DD_Rescue have a good rate of success??

I posted a review of DeepSpar vs Atola Imager vs gnu ddrescue (DD_Rescue's cousin) on my website here.

Realistically speaking, the tools you use depend on what you want to do, the condition of the drive, how often you need it and how much money you want to invest into the tools.

I had already saw your website, earlier and it was when I got to know about DD_Rescue.

I'm starting know on the DR way. I used only to work/solve logical problems, but now I have bought the SD Doctor suite.
I can't invest all of my money at one time, and I think I have bought the 1st of the essencial tools.
Id DD_Rescue can do the work for now, I'll just invest in another tools (better ones) when I got more work and more money too.

About DD, how do you work with it? Do you start it directly from a disk/cd/pen? Or do you need an OS?

Good luck with the SD Doctors. I hope you find them more useful than me.

As for ddrescue, I have it compiled in several different locations...MacOS, USB Fedora, IDE Ubuntu and Windows Cygwin. I don't use it very often, as I have all the physical tools available to use, which do a lot better job.

Go to each program's site and read the documentation. You'll need to form your own opinion about them.

We use DDrescue, in *BSD and MacOSX.

DDRescue is my preference over DD_Rescue, but this is a personal preference. If you cannot justify a Deepspar unit - which is what i would go for - it may serve you well.

No software package I have ever used has come close to DDI for its stability, comprehensive feature list and configurability.

This doesn't mean that open source tools won't work for you, and you can always modify them as you see fit if you are able.

You can have it on a CD live.

Look for SystemRescue CD, it was useful for me.

ddrescue is good for a not so damaged drive. I think it is better than a lot of commercial software based cloners but it has nothing on Deepspar (which INMO is an essential tool for any data recovery company, ours paid for its self within a few months)

I totally agree...though, my first imager paid for itself within the first month, if not the first week of having it.
