I have a xls sheet of a mate - he forgot the password and its some info on how much money he owes or something.

I have been trying a software to bruteforce the password- obviulsy this can take months.
The software i use does not suppor multi pc?
Can anybody recommend software where we can use nmultiple pcs and join others later if possible to combine computing power.
Or i heard there are datacentre vm's for hire? any suggestions - would like the software to use multi pcs as i have many spare laptops and computers that can help me out. but sometimes i would need to turn them off or use another pc.

which ver. 2k? or 2k3 or 2k7?

What Software Are You Using On this currently .

am using this: http://www.lostpassword.com/ "Office Key"

for office files, very quick never took more than 3min.

Thanks- i got the enterprise version - you are right it took me just over 1 minute on a zeon pc. although the pasword ws simple 'sunshine' - 800passwords a minute.. impressive i should ask?

well, normal XLS file password should be simple
and its drag-drop with this app. i tried it very nice one

there are other tools for complicated passwords.

and always always open the file with OpenOffice sometimes it bypasses the pass coz its an API
and linux never go through GUI MS API

OP, did you get the problem fixed? i have the same problem with an office sheet. however it is 2010.
