I am not moaning, but suggesting improvements. Do you want to say that if a software is free then no requests can be made? Is this a joke?

OK. I didn't realize that you made that software first of all for yourself.

HDDScan does an excellent job assessing a drive's health. IMHO that should be its one and only purpose. I prefer small utilities that are targeted at one particular function. If the author were to add FS support, then the program would become bloated and would be much more difficult to maintain.

In that case you could word your "Request" in a more polite way rather than "Perhaps it should then?" Or just PM the author directly.

I don't see anything impolite in the sentence: "Perhaps it should then?" The word "perhaps" indicates that it is a suggestion / request.
Perhaps you should not assume bad intentions in your debater that hastily?

Can you, please, confirm that you have read the above quoted message and whether or not you are considering introducing this feature (saving the map for example as HTML or graphic file), as I am missing it quite a lot (I am going to publish soon some screenshots of the map, but what I really would prefer to do is to show to people the entire map of the scan, and currently it is difficult to achieve).

I understand your needs. But I don't know how to do develop that feature
I don't even know when I'm gonna have time to implement even small requests :)

OK. Fair enough. Perhaps someone on the forum would be able to help you.

In theory it is possible to make a screenshot of the scrolled map using Hypersnap DX (perhaps you could figure out how they do it), but in most cases it failed to do so (but I have a very old version of the software), and even in one case when it started to scroll when taking the screenshot it stopped much too soon (before even achieving half of the map).

Sadly I have a rather negative view of freeware wannabies and how they believe that they deserve everything because it is an "Internet Given Right"

Perhaps I am wrong, in that case I apologise and enjoy your life :O)

In my opinion it is the right of every user to express their wishes of improvements or changes to the software they are using regardless of the status of the software. Otherwise how would software developer knew what his/her users want? He/she can only know that from the users feedback. The only difference between freeware and non freeware, in that regard, is perhaps that users are hardly in a position to demand any changes in case of freeware, they can only suggest the changes by expressing their wishes. But even with non freeware software legally I believe that they cannot demand changes, so formally there is no difference. Hence I do not know what really your problem is, but in my opinion it is something different than you openly express. Hence, I do not know how to help you. Sorry :(

I tested 5 hard drives using different tests (mainly surface access times tests):

1. Samsung HD204UI in Verbatim 2 TB 3.0 USB enclosure.
2. Samsung SP1614N
3. WDC WD6400AAKS
4. WDC WD1600BEVS
5. Seagate ST320410A

The tests results are in 149 files of the screenshots of these tests, available to download in this thread:
surface-test-hdds-t18575.html

1. Generally Samsung drives (even the new 2TB Samsung HD204UI) seem to have considerably poorer quality of the surface comparing to the 3 years old (or so) Western Digital WDC WD6400AAKS.

2. I would like to see similar tests, in particular of other brands and models of 2 TB hard drives. Please upload your tests results in that thread (click the link above).

3. I wonder why in some hard drives slower access times can bee seen aligning in some diagonal patterns (in HD204UI) and why in some other drives (in WDC WD1600BEVS) a checkered pattern appears (only from the second half of the scan) which "shape" changes regularly depending on the part of the disk surface scanned, while in some other drives no such regular patterns are present?

4. Why is there such a difference in SMART status health notification between various software for Samsung SP1614N (it is red for most of the tests in HDD Health and everything OK in HD Tune)? There is also a significant difference in MHDD scan result and HDDScan result for SP1614N.

5. BTW, it took ca. 31 h to test Samsung HD204UI in Verbatim 2 TB 3.0 USB enclosure on USB 2.0 port.

Yes, it was your opinion that I apparently should not submit any wishlist to developer about anything, but I have different opinion about that. What's so funny about that?

I think guru's issue is that you have been pushy and insistent about the developer of a free software implementing new features solely to make your life more convenient

After I got a clear answer from developer I did not ask any more questions about each of the particular issues, so where I was pushy? Nevermind. Apparently some people are just oversensitive. Too bad...

No. To make everyones life more convenient. Everyone would benefit from implementing those features.

Re: HDDScan blocks colours

Everyone would benefit from implementing those features. Said Hosni Mubarak in his last speech to his subjects

Seriously now. Maybe you could search for some paid for "Non Freeware" which will have more bells and whistles on it for you? Perhaps the developers will have more time to implement your requirements?
