You may be able to use the --fwdownload option in hdparm. For example, the author of this tech note has successfully upgraded the firmware on Seagate ES.2 drives using Dell MA0D firmware: https://ata.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Talk:Known_issues However, see his warning: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/foru ... ls-support That said, if Hitachi has made an update available, then the updater should have been packaged with it. |

We dont even know why the person wants to update the firmware. Sometimes its wise to sit back and wait. |

I need to flash it so I can use it on a storevault NAS unit. Without flashing the firmware it's not recognized. |

No. The NAS forces you to use their own drives (same exact model) and they charge $800 for 500GB. If I can gte a tool to flash the hitachi then I can avoid this. The NAS of end of life so I really need to hitachi flashing tool to get this done |
