 Post subject: bad sector repair software,what works?

ok,so I repair laptops and have a stack of hard drives that say bad sectors,ran hard drive regenerator which someone here said ruins drives but didnt elaorate,is there any simple program to give me a chance to save these drives?Dont want to get in to deep and dont care about recovery or ruining an already bad drive,also I have a 80gig hitachi reavelstar that was in a video recorder,I had to initialize it says healthy drive,did eror check and none,shows up in my computer but when I try to put windows on it it wont boot from the drive dureing programming,I think it has no boot sector?doesnt show any boot file in computer management?just active healthy partition,the drive had propietory operating system for the dvr before reformat,I am a newbie to this and would greatly apreciate any advice.

Personnally, i don't use hdd with bad sectors and I don't think you should...

hate to give up on so many drives,the 2 I am playing with now seem to be boot sector problems.

Hi, software alone may not be best option. Need to determine what going wrong, because fix may end up being temporary.

The windows install when it creates the NTFS partition creates the boot sector. Have you wiped the drives wrote all zeros to the drive before you installed Windows. Windows normally wont install on a drive that had some version of linux on it previously therefore wiping it resolves that issue. I agree with others the low cost of hard drives these days does not make it worth using drives with known bad sectors the drives are dying why take the risk with data ? You can't "fix" a bad drive only recover data and throw it out or keep for parts.

I did use low level format is that the same as writeing the 0"s,if not what program to do that?and thanks for the replies.

What program did you use ? I use dban download burn iso to cd boot pc with that drive only type quick at the prompt and wait for it to wipe drive
