I'd like to place burned MHDD image CD in external USB Samsung DVD-RW drive (SE-S084F), and diag (error-scan) a newly bought WD20EARX 2TB. The target HDD to scan is situated in an external HDD enclosure attached via SATA interface to my ThinkPad X220.

Does the official MHDD image CD available at the following link come with usbaspi driver? In words, can burned MHDD image bootable from a external USB DVD drive?
MHDD image CD: http://hddguru.com/download/software/mh ... 4.6iso.zip

Thank you for advising!

The answer to that question depends on your PC BIOS and is nothing to do with the drivers included on the MHDD CD itself - since those drivers are only used after the CD has booted anyway. :)

Also remember that the SATA controller you are using for your "drive under test", needs to be in IDE / compatibility mode (not AHCI / RAID) for it to be usable by MHDD.

There shouldnt be any problem to boot with the MHDD cd,
but besides the internal hdd (when started in ide compatible mode)
you wont see any other connected hdd.

According to the specifications there exists no version of this laptop
which supports eSATA, and USB for external HDD is not supported by
MHDD.

As you use eSATA its most probably with a seperate adapter. This
also wont be supported by MHDD.

If there is a newer version out of this laptop which has a built in
eSATA port, yes this will be supported by MHDD (but only in IDE
compatible mode).
