| Post subject: | WD WDBAAU0020HBK 2TB - Unreadable |
Hello, it's first time to me to write in this forum. Please let me know if I write not well the problem is this: WDBAAU0020HBK is in HFS+ Format (MAC), and is formatted into 2 partitions- 1 bigger (1.5 Tb) and one smaller (.5 tb) It suddenly happened and Mac says that is impossible to mount these partitions. (it seems Partition corruption) When I open Disk Utility i can mount the smaller one only in Read mode. The bigger one is impossible. I tried also using DiskWarrior: it doesn't see the bigger one. i did some analysis with TestDisk and it tells "bad MAC partition, invalid block0 signature", it's so generic. So, what is shoul do? More investigation to understand the nature? if yes, which tool works in HFS+? Then tomorrow as I will have back the mac again i will try to "ddrescue" the bigger partition, but i don't have a HD big 1.5Tb. In order to understand if is possible to "get a part of datas" which tool should i use? Even it exists. thanks in advance. Zak |

Using Windows to have a look at a Mac disk with file system problems is actually not a bad first step sometimes you can be lucky and get access to the data straight away. But by the sound of it you will need to go the next step. I’ve had a look at Mac Drive for Windows and it does not have data recovery features. I would suggest R-studio as well if you are new to this. FTK imager is a free forensic tool that may allow you to look into your second partition on your disk. |

To answer this question Quote: I don't know FTK imager, is a "image Creator" of the Partition? Yes FTK will produce complete 'copies' images of HDD's and other data devices, but it also has the ability to allow the user to review data on a disk and export files folders. If the file system is not too badly damaged you may be able to review the content of your second partition. |

Macdrive has a drive repair option that could possibly repair the file structure. But i would always take an clone image of the drive first. |

Hello again, i tried R-Studio only this evening as my Bro lent me the MacBook yesterday evening (meeeeeeeeessed up by his son, then i lost a day doing some backup for him-formatting-SnowLeoparding/Leoning for him, dammit! then...ah yes, I tried the R-Studio for Mac and HUH it found the structure! I didn't tried other things, I did a readable on the readable partition: is very "Slow"... hmmm sign of phisical damage? some advise? Tomorrow at Work (I have a Windows@work) I will try the other tools. Then do some analysis and some thinking about buying 2Tb HD for "backupping" all. thanks for the support |
