Hey all, I know this thread is a couple of months old but I have some info that people were asking about which may help.
I managed to get a quote for MMPC, they charge 10,500 GBP for the license, then annual renewal is 15%.
There is another tool called Octane for Backup made by a US company called Index Engines. This is a mixed hardware software solution, they charge $12,500 US for the hardware which comes preinstalled with the software on it. You supply your own tape drives then the software does the rest. There is no annual renewal (I think) but you pay per tape you download. They have apparently quite a complicated pricing system and they were unwilling to tell me the pricing without me giving them more information and wanting to have a teleconference with me. Seems they try the hard sell a bit much which annoyed me so I haven't got back to them yet.
NovaXchange is a cheap option at just over $1,200 US but my information direct from Novastor is that NovaXchange can't read any type of backup format,
Quote:
NovaXchange can read ASCII and EBCIDIC data and convert between the two. It cannot open say a Backup Exec backup file and read the files inside that backup type.
That is a direct quote from an email I received last week from Novastor...
The other option (which is the approach I will be taking until I can justify the buying the Octane solution) is to purchase a couple of the newer USB tape drives, then waiting until I have the tape in hand then purchase the same software the tape was created with. Restore the tape to a fresh drive then use Xways to analyse the data from there.
chipsang hopefully something there is of use to you
