@labtech, that website looks too generic to be trustworthy. I have some travan tape with damaged headers/crumpled up tape. Any reliable tape data recovery company out there?

I don't get a commission or are affiliated with Total Migration in any way, so I don't care if you trust them or not.
I have spoken to the owner via email before: I did not get the impression they are not trustworthy. Perhaps not judge a book by its cover?!
The owner made his email available on the website.
Have you tried contacting them explaining your issue via contact form or email?

All in all, tape recovery resources are limited and it is difficult to find a satisfactory company with a convincing website that "they are the greatest and most thorough". This does not really exist in the tape world, as you have experienced so far with suggestions in this thread. Most tape companies operate in the background, quietly, on larger payments/contracts. Therefore, they don't care to impress with fancy websites. Matter of fact, the best engineers in the data recovery world have generic websites. Personally, it is those companies with fancy websites that are often the ones not to be trusted. Those are the real crooks.

Either way, it sounds like your particular tape has physical.issues. Not sure many places would be interested in messing around with it.

I'm hoping digital tape is like analog tape where you can cut out the bad parts and the good part is still readable. I'll contact that website owner.

Curious if sjohnson@totaldatamigration.com is the same Steve Johnson CEO of eMag Solutions which used to sell MMPC. https://www.linkedin.com/in/stevejohnsonedrm/

It should be possible. I have recovered several tapes (in digital reel-to-reel decks) where the leader was damaged just after the BOT marker.
