Dear friends,

I'm looking for MHDD for Windows 7 / 64 bit. If you know where I can find it or how to make the 32bit version works on win7/64bit, please give me a hand. Thank you.

MHDD is a DOS program (using a DOS extender), therefore the question about a Win7 64-bit version makes no sense to me :(

See:
http://hddguru.com/software/2005.10.02-MHDD/
http://hddguru.com/software/2005.10.02- ... al.en.html

Do those MHDD docs explain enough for you, about MHDD using DOS?

[I'll ask for this thread to be moved to the Software section of the forum, as that is where MHDD discussions usually live.]

Vulcan,

Thank you very much.

I was tring to mark bad sectors of my portable disk using the MHDD. An error was showing to suggest a 64bit version of the software was required when I try to run it in the CMD console of win7. I understand that the MHDD will works smoothly in a pure DOS environment. But I don't have any console except for the CMD console of the win7 on my computer. I will try to find another computer to do it later. Thank you very much for your kindly help.

Thanks for the info.

With respect, are you sure that you've done enough research and have enough experience for this to be an appropriate plan? Depending on the exact symptoms, the SMART data, the reported Windows error messages, and your expectations regarding the data on the disk etc., this may not be sensible... Do you have backups of the data which is on this disk?

That is an erroneous suggestion from Win7, caused by you trying to do something that is not intended to work anyway i.e. trying to run MHDD from the Win7 command prompt (which is not DOS).

If you run MHDD from a bootable DOS CD (or USB), which can be downloaded, then it doesn't matter what OS is installed on your PC. :)

As I said before - I politely suggest you take a step back, and re-consider your plan. If you still want to go ahead, and you agree to accept the consequences, make sure you read all the MHDD docs, including the "important information" warnings and recommendations.

Vulcan,

Thank you very much for your suggestions. The disk has no any useful data already, please do not worry about it.

Since the disk can even not been formated successfully without turn on the quick format option, I want to find some tools help me to fix it. Seems I still have a chance to bring it back because, once it was formated with the quick format, I can copy file into or out of the disk without error. Of course I will not used the disk as it is because I do not want to put my data in risk. I have heard about tools fix bad sectors of disks but never tried them by myself. It is a nice chance for me to get familiar with the tools. Thanks again for your practical suggestions. Noah
