Greetings everyone, I am recovering a 2GB WD Elements HD. It's been used for video editing and crashed during rendering of the video. MHDD scan showed 197 bad blocks (UNC) which were removed after I scanned it with HDAT2. I had a drive image already (done w Acronis True Image), but after UNC's were gone I could mount the drive and access files without any problem or hang-ups. I copied all the files on another drive and proceeded with fixing the Drive itself. I scanned it w MHDD and discovered that there are still delays showing up - 9 Brown (less then 500ms), 32 Green, and 580 w less then 50 ms. I did full erase, scanned with erase and with remap, but non of this removed delays. So I have 2 questions. 1. Can I do anything to remove at least the Brown delays? 2. Can I do anything to make this a usable drive? I don't have any warranty on it and would like to keep using it, what are my risks/options? Thanks in advance, Nick |

Hi, First have you read the mhdd manual? If so you know about the cfg file. CFG/mhhd.cfg file as observed N.B. # is NOT a comment but is included in every(?) line. Turning on Erase Delays in scan parameters will destory data Add this line #SCAN_ERASEWAITSDELAY=350 to the cfg file but changing the 350 value to what you want. Are you accepting the risks involved with DIY? If the above fails then your out of DIY options as expensive specialist DR tools would be required unless you send it away for a refurb? Loki |

Thanks Loki. I backed up all the data, I just want to fix the delays on the drive. From your experience, what do I risk leaving them as they are? There are 9 Brown and 31 Green delays at this moment. |

you use mhdd? if yes, press F2 and typing not scan or F4, type erase, and you not see screen, but after when done erase, make scan one more time, and see what is gone one |

Then two options can be, you need to check the system does not work well whether it is see how many slow sectors ..... you found in the first case, if scan one more time, and seeing the exact value of the estimated similar to the first, then only specials. program, you need to scan the drive with the hidden defects in Psheet, I do it with a program ps3000 |

You will not find in the free access that program, because it contains a PCI card |

" The only thing I don't get is, why wouldn't the soft erase delays automatically, since it can detect them, would the above suggestion do anything differently? Also, do I need to erase only 500 and over delays or all of them - 150, 50ms? Thanks! |

hey loki! it works! Thanks a lot! I figured out how to edit mhdd.cfg and SET ERASEWAITSDELAY=50 scanned with EraseDalays ON now I have all those delays removed, but I got one UNC. I used to have more of them, but I believe they were gone after disc erase. What can I do with UNC? |

I'm over with this, after I erased the waits, and got UNC, I attempted to remap the UNC block, which didn't seem to work, but I got a lot of delays back. WTF! I thought it's a permanent solution!  Dear all, unless you advise otherwise, I'm gonna trash that drive. I've learned a lot, but it seems the drive is faulty beyond repair. Please advice if you think otherwise. |
