Wiped drive = clean scan?

Hi guys, first post here.
Will any drive wiping software such as HDDErase or the erase function in MHDD "fix" the green slow blocks in the MHDD scan?
I've been reading a ton of posts here about using the secure erase within MHDD but i can't get around the password. anything I do it says "Fail." from what I read it's the PC Bios freezing the drive to protect from malicious invasion, but I don't know how to get around that.
I have a bunch of 250GB IDE that go into intellex camera servers for video storage and the OS, and with the cost of replacement drives at around $45/ea, I am trying to learn on the fly how I can correct the ones I have. Most only have 1-3 Green blocks, but that seems to be enough to cause freezing issues and lock ups in the field. My work has been using killdisk for wiping and a Kanguru clone machine for mass erase and scan, but both seem like garbage to me. I use MHDD as the final call for sending a drive out, but I don't feel like Killdisk is doing enough before I scan it.
Can wiping a drive with a high quality program take care of a few green blocks?
Thanks!
