How to disable HDD? I installed Windows 8 on SSD Samsung 830 256 GB, but sometimes HDD starts spinning with no reasons. Procmon.exe does not show which program do this. I can not disable it with HotSwap! 6.1.0.0 or system options. When I plug it off UEFI says that there is no proper boot device. Please help to calm it down - I really rarely use it. |

I think he means he wants to disable his other hdd, which is not SSD. @OP: If you dont use your HDD that often, you can remove it from your system and use it as an external drive whenever you need it. Does the drive support PUIS? |

OK wait. You have two drives installed in your machine. One HDD (Toshiba) and one SSD (Samsung). Correct? So now when you remove Toshiba out of machine it says there is no proper boot device? Then, you need to enter BIOS and put the correct settings there. |

Then, you need to enter BIOS and put the correct settings there." I did. But the problem is I have two Windows 8 - the first installed on HDD and the second on SSD. I suspect this is the issue. |

Well yes. If you expect your system to boot from the HDD windows, when your HDD is not connected, it will fail. |

I want to boot from SSD Windows. Actually I have found an answer to the second part of my question (booting without HDD with MBR): http://www.maximumpc.com/article/ask_doctor/moving_mbr "I have two hard drives in my system. I had XP on my C: drive and I installed Vista on drive G: after a virus ran rampant through my XP system. I had it set up as a dual-boot machine for a while until I got a chance to get everything installed and running under Vista. Now I want to format the XP drive, but I realized that Windows can’t because the Master Boot Record is on that drive. Is there any way to move the MBR from the XP drive to the Vista drive so I can set the latter as the primary boot drive in my BIOS? —Ian Klasovsky Ian, provided you have your Vista install disc, there’s a fairly easy solution. Boot into Vista and enter Computer Management, and click Storage, then Disk Management. Right-click your Vista drive and select “Mark Partition as Active.” This tells Windows you’ll be booting from this drive. Restart your computer and enter your BIOS. Set your boot order as follows: Optical Drive > Vista Drive > XP Drive. Save and exit. Boot into your Vista install disc, and go to the recovery console. Run Setup Repair and you should get a fully functioning Master Boot Record on your Vista drive! Afterwards, you can set your Vista drive back to top of the boot order, then boot into Vista, and use Computer Management to quick-format your old XP drive. Presto!" |

Actually I kinda solved my problem. Summary of what I did. I did: 1. "1. Press the Win key + W key 2.Type: Protection in the Search box 3. Click on Create a Restore Point icon that appears on the left of the Start Screen 4. Click on the HDD in question and then click Configure 5.
