I have a couple of years working in data recovery, all I have done manually using r-studio only on the logical problems and changing the pcb in electronic problems.

I want to initiate me more professionally and want to invest in a machine to retrieve data that is why I want to know which machine is best for introducing me professionally.

What Manufacturer and machines that you recommend for me started professionally in data recovery?

ace lab
PC3000

SalvationDATA
compass data and hddoctor

Atola
Atola insight

dolphin data labs
DFL and DFL-DE-FRP

What do you recommend me?

Acelab PC-3000 with DE should be the ideal tool, the problem is the limitations that they have with the contract that you have to make when aquiring the tool, like not be able to transfer the tool to other person and computer on another place, etc .... Also you have to pay anual fee for updates.

At this point if you are not bothered by the policy of ACE and you have the money to invest, by all means go for it, as it's the "standard" tool of the data recovery industry.

But if you have issues regarding the license policy (like me) then absolutly forget it and think about the alternatives that are emerging on the market, like the EDR tools if you want a powerfull complex of hardware/software like PC-3000 :

Or wait some more weeks for the english version of MRT that should be about to be released :

If you don't have money to invest in hardware/software complex (as you will spend at least €4000 - euro - even with the cheapest alternatives) you can start with the "cheap" china softwares just to see if data recovery at the firmware level is a thing that you indeed want to do or not ...

In other words, don't start by investing a huge amount of money in tools that you will end up not using or understanding, as firmware fix is not for all and require study and practice and dedication.

If you are not sure about what you are doing and trying to obtain, then instead of starting by buying a $10 000 USD tool like PC3K start by spening something like $100 USD on the WDMarvell (unlimited) tool or even less on the China HDD tools and check (despite of the limitations of those softwares compared with the more expensive tools) if data recovery at the firmware level is indeed a thing that you want to do.

Also you can grab the free vendor tools to play with older drives and see if you can get the hand of it, or at least have a feel about what hdd firmware is all about.

Regards and hope this helps you out a little bit.

Hi elanibal

You could add Deepspar Disk Imager (DDI) to your list.
Not as extensive or expensive as the gear you mention but a great step up from software based recovery and offers a good return on investment. It is worth adding the current monitor and network addon at this stage too.

The DDI USB addon is quite expensive by comparison and may not give you much return being quite specialised in its application. Your mileage may vary as obviously the more trade you have, the more likely you are to use it.

Also check Atola Imager in the same sort of price bracket.

Salvation Data gear is cheaper but not well regarded here and has seen a lot of complaints regarding fitness for purose and general level of support and updates.

It is also worth checking the price of yearly updates, support, and if you are allowed to sell the gear if you decide to leave data recovery.

good luck

K

of if you decide to leave Data Recovery and want to sell your gear on.
