A tool/util to manage ATA features/commands?

There came a day, and there was a night, and then I thought: why there're so few pieces of software to manage ATA features/commands?
Some utils can manage AAM, some can go with APM, some reset DCO or set the transfer mode and so on, but except HDAT2 for DOS there's almost no software to manage a set of HDD features, right?
Why, HDAT2 is ok, but it doesn't work well with some HDD models--sometimes it triggers fancy errs, sometimes shows that everything is fine while no changes applied and so on; perhaps an updated version would do.
So far, does somebody know an appropriate tool for HDD features setup, if any?
TY
