My computer system partition gets a low disk space issue which has stopped me installing several needed programs. In fact, I had tried to delete and remove all useless files, folders and programs. But, the result is not so efficient. Do you have any idea for me to fix this low disk space problem? Or do I have to buy a larger drive to instead the old one? Thank you for any suggestion here!

Hi Burton
Firstly beware: removing directories on a guess by guess basis could seriously trash your system.

Utilities like Ccleaner may help you get some workable space for the meantime even if only to install tools.
They clear redundant and temporary files and can save you gigabytes of space on a congested drive.

Then maybe grab a utility like defraggler or auslogics disk defrag, both free.
When installing any of the above, always use the programs home site (piriform for ccleaner / defraggler) and not a utilities website. Decline all offers of taskbars, browsers, addons and helpers etc.

Run the program in analyze first, and before you do anything else take a screenshot of what the defrag program sees and post here, showing disk space, how many partitions etc.

Defragmenting a drive with little usable free space will be incredibly long winded and could decrease the life of the drive, or even kill it if it is in fragile state already.

Always proceed with care, advice on any forum can only ever be best guess without physical access to a system.

It sounds to me like your drive is not all that large, and you have done all that you can with it.

Another solution is to buy another drive, say a 500GB - 1TB and install it as a second drive.

you should be able to simply shut down the computer, open it, find where it is to be screwed in, attach power and data cable, close up computer and bootup.

then you don't need to change anything else and risk damaging file structures.

if you are having problems with space, and you free some up by deleting, it wont be long before you are in the same position.

Hey, the ways for you to resolve this low disk space problem could be different according to your different conditions:
* If there is too unnecessary files or programs stored on this system partition, clean them all up to free some free space.
* If there is enough free space on other partition, like D, E or F partitions, you can open Disk Management, delete or shrink the partition with free space and add the free space to your system partition there.
* If the free space is not adjacent to your system partition, you also can use a partition resizing tool to extend this partition, like GParted, IM-Magic Partition Resizer Free and Active Partition Master, etc.
* But, if there is no any free space left on the same physical drive, just buy a larger one to replace the old one.
No matter what your conditions are, just save all partition data on other places in case of data loss.

Hello,
if there is problem with system partition, you can do following things:
first BACKUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! everything!!!!!! All partitions
Then you can resize system partition, or create only one partition on your drive.
Buy larger drive and image old drive to new drive.

If you use winxp, you can delete all service packs and updates backup folders in windows directory started with $.
Youo can use ccleaner to remove all internet and tmp files from your computer.

Are you sure there is enough free space left on the rest partitions? If you are sure, adding it to your system partition is really workable. So, open your Disk Management or partition resizing tools to go on.
Here is a video tutorial that can teach you how to extend a partition space step by step:

Hope it will help you out.
To avoid partition data in the process of extending, simply make data backups well in advance.
