Try PhotoRec. I've found that it does an excellent job with pictures like your, where several other recover programs don't.

I hope you're scanning the sector-by-sector clone, not the original drive, with PhotoRec, and that the cloning was done with ddrescue or data recovery hardware, not software that simply skips bad sectors. You mentioned there are a lot of bad sectors on the original, so you may never be able to get good quality pictures back.

Edit: I see you have data recovery skills and experience, so forgive the suggestion you might have used just cloning software.
