Reverse scan with repair? Victoria Purchase?

February 5th, 2015, 8:00

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a tool that does repair like HDD Regenerator, but in reverse mode: from the end to the begining of the HD.

Also I would like to get a license for Victoria full. The latest one that I know of is 4.47, and it only repairs in a non-free version which I still don't know how can I get.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Why reverse mode?

You are aware that HDD Regenerator doesn't repair the drive, right? Funny thing is, the cost of the program to "repair" the drive tends to be higher than the value of the drive being "repaired."

Repair like HDDReg, we understand that's just magnetic.

Reverse mode to thereby disable lookahead caching, which allows recovering in some scenarios. For instance, imaging in reverse mode is well known to allow recover of unreadable HDDs.

Any other recommendation would be welcome, also.

HDD Regenerator = MHDD + remap = Victoria + remap.

reverse mode HDD Regenerator = Victoria + reverse read + remap

Hello Tomset and thank you for the reply,

HDDreg does a remap, not a restore? It always seemed to do a restore of the unreadable sectors.

Victoria has this restore feature but not in the free version. How get the full version?

And you should be aware that these functions should only ever be tried to "refurbish" drives, not to recover data from them. In all likelihood it'll kill the drive before "fixing" anything.

If you want the data back, you should try a program called ddrescue in Linux.

Code:
HDDreg does a remap, not a restore? It always seemed to do a restore of the unreadable sectors.

99,999% bad sectors can not be read.
So, recovering of them - it's a fairy tale.
Author Victoria wanted to implement it, but changed his mind in time. :)

HDD Regenerator also can not.
Нe rewrites bad sectors signature 0000.

@OP
What is the full model of the drive?
What are the SMART values on the drive?
What tests have you run that support "a repair" is feasible and likely successful?

Does exist a similar Windows/DOS tool with the same features from DDRescue but with a GUI?
