Seagate runs a DR service ...
Seagate does Hard Drives ...

Now .... Seagate will not want for people and other DR firms to be "messing" with their firmware .... as they will want to be the ones recovering their drives ...

This sort of tool is now public available ...

I wouldn't be surprised if Seagate and other vendors would block for good SA access.

Something like removing TTL interface completly on the retail drives and keep some sort of test PCB for them with TTL access, or something like deny for good VSC and have their own versions of ROM that allow access to SA by specific code that would never be released to the public, etc ...

My cristall ball tells me that someday soon it will be near impossible to access SA on newer drives, even for Ace and others (MRTLabs as well).

While on some aspects it's "good" this sort of tools, on other aspects is ..... VERY BAD.

Actually, I think denying access to the SA, under any circumstances, could be a good idea. Firstly, it would impress upon people that backups are absolutely mandatory, and secondly it would also prevent malware (or government agencies) from attacking the firmware.

But it could be an impossible task as well...
The drive must access SA and so ....
There will always be someone able to hack it .... Even if you have to JTag or read the RAM or whatever, if the drive have to "decrypt" the SA, then it should be possible to access it ...

I don't know.

I've tested this tool with a Momentus 5400.6 and a DiamondMax 22 (equivalent to a Seagate 7200.11) and the tool didn't work properly, and didn't read the modules on SA.

So far I've only manage to make it to work with 7200.12 drives.

Also one should note that the Firmware Table, or modules that this tool can download are just a few of them an not the totality of modules present on a Seagate F3 arch drive.

Tools like "Seagate F3 Tools" and the other commercial hardware based tools (PC-3000, MRTLabs, etc) will handle more modules than this current release/version of this tool.

My Spildit your Cristal Ball was Right WD started Locking SA fblite (WD10JMVW-11AJGS1) is locked SA but ACE & others found way to access SA making swapper is the issue ACE had tried no success so far.
