The easy way is by the use of WDR Demo (free) assuming your drive doesn't lock SA access when ATA password is present.

If SA access is locked you can try ZU otherwise you will need to hot swap or swap ROM/PCB in a way it will not have the same version as perm overlay so SA is not loaded, etc...

Im not sure what im supposed to use to unlock this wd drive

it shows wd-marvel and wd-royal and soft reset

I have a scorpio blue

yes the drive works fine in my origional sata port on the pc it came with. if i unlock it in the oem pc i could probably use it on the other pc

thanks for the info

I tried WDR demo but all functions seem to say "PRIVILEGED Instruction"

what function is unlock? I don't see any unlock feature?

Maybe you can give me a little instruction.

thanks

Try this http://wdmarvel.com/en/

Do you have some special equipment (PC3K, HRT, Atola etc.)?

WDR DEMO requires 32 bit windows because of driver installation :

http://www.hddoracle.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=33

PRIVILIGED Instruction is caused either by the fact that the driver didn't install properly or because you are not running with admin priviledges.

Try again, if it fails you can try the MHDD script to read password module or use alternative tools like WDMarvell or SeDiv.

Well i put a 32 bit windows on the drive and ran the wdr demo again

your right, it will run in 32bit windows - no errors or privilege errors showing now

the problem is the drive does not seem to be reading. I tried to use the marvel and royl menus to edit password but it does not read nothing from the drive. it appears nothing on the drive is being identify on this WDR DEMO program either.

Did you select the correct PORT where the drive is connected ?

Do you have the drive directly connected by SATA instead of USB adaptor ?

Just connect the drive by SATA, using WDR go to Options - Port - Custom and select the port where the drive is connected first, you should see drive ID on the RIYL window.

yes I tried master slave and custom

I dont think I have the port selected correctly. How do I identify the correct port.
I just used the custom default

i get this on the log showing its not detecting it

FW: SN: (ROYL selected) port 0x170
Logical: Cyls 0, Heads 0, Sectors 0, LBA 0, 0Gb
Controller Buffer Size: 0Kb
Family: Unknown

Chose custom and you should see a list of ports. If you don't see the list then the driver is not correctly installed. If you see a list of custom ports select one by one and open the royl utility untill you see the correct drive.

If you don't see something like this then the WDR driver is not properly installed. Try 32 bit windows xp or a portable windows on hirens boot cd :

Are you running as ADMIN ?
Maybe some AV product is preventing the driver from installing ?
You canm try with mini XP of Hirens boot cd as it's confirmed to work.
Also make sure you have the correct DEMO version.
